In-vitro Culture Technologies
Fraunhofer Institute for Biomedical Engineering
The work of the In vitro Culture Technology group is focused on the isolation and culture of primary cells, precursor and cells stem cells as well as their differentiation in vitro. Beside established methods and processes the goal of the group is the development of alternative physiological in vitro culture systems. These workings are embedded among others in national and international funded projects.
- Isolation of adult stem cells from, pancreas, salivary gland, intestine and bone marrow of different organisms like mouse, chicken and human
- characterization of primary cells and adult stem cells regarding their gene expression, potential of differentiation and proliferation
- different culture techniques for cell lines, primary cells and adult stem cells:
-3-D (hanging droplet, rotation culture, spinner flask)
-on structured and biologically modified surfaces
-on matrices for tissue engineering
-on liquid-liquid interfaces - induction of osteogenic, adipogenic, chondrogenic, neuronal and myogenic differentiation and quantitative verification
- genetical manipulations:
-immortalization of primary cells and stem cells
-induction of pluripotency in somatic cells (generation of iPS) - cytotoxicity and biocompatibility studies (ISO 10993/EN 30993) as well as drug screening on the HET-CAM-System (Hen`s Egg Test on Chorio-Allantoic Membrane)
